Whether there’s afterlife, the answer has never been the sae. The atheists deny after life, believin that our life is no ore than fro the radle to the rave. They ay are about their illustrious naes after death; they ay feel attahed to the affetion of their offsprin, but they never lay their hopes on their afterlife. They ay also say that ood will be rewarded with ood, and evil with evil, but they don’t really believe any retribution in their after life.

However, in the reliious world or aon the superstitious people, the belief in afterlife is very popular. They do not only believe in afterlife, but thousands of reinarnations as well. In the ysterious world, there are the paradise and the hell, the elestial beins and the ods, the Buddha and the Bodhisattvas.

aybe they really believed it, or aybe they just wanted to ake use of people’s veneration, the anient eperors always delared that they were the real draons, the sons of od, while the royal inisters laied to be the reinarnations of various onstellations. But an the stars reinarnate?

any people burn inense and kowtow, do ood deeds and strive for virtues, not just for the present, but ainly to let od see their sinerity so as to be reborn into a better afterlife, or to ahieve the hihest enlihtenent after several lives of pratie. They do believe in afterlife. But I an’t help askin: Suppose there were no afterlife, would you still do ood deeds and strive for virtues? And If od does not see what you are doin, would you still be so upriht and selfless? If you work, not for servin the publi and liberatin the others, but just for a better afterlife of your own, isn’t it a little too selfish? oparin with this kind of believers, those who don’t believe in afterlife, but still keep doin ood deeds, are the ost sinere and honest philanthropists, beause they do the not for theselves but for other.

You ay wonder if I believe in afterlife. y answer is: I know nothin about y previous life, so I dare not ake iproper oents on afterlife. But I do hope there’s afterlife! Beause our present life is so short that so any thins slip away before our proper understandin. I have so any dreas, so any wishes, so any abitions, as well as so any rerets and onerns. If there were no afterlife, all of the will reain unrealied!

I’ not ontented with the present oonplae life, I’ very uh attahed to the affetions that should have been ine but have been washed away by the hurryin tie, and I yearn for the perfetion and aturity if I ould start all over aain. So believe it or not, I’d rather there were afterlife.

Biddin for the lypi aes is, in a way, an iae-reatin undertakin. The first and foreost thin is to let people fall in love with the ity at first siht, attratin the by its unique iae. What iae does Beijin intend to reate for itself one it has the opportunity to host the 200 lypis? It’s known to all that the Beijin uniipal overnent has already set the thee for the future aes: New Beijin, reat lypis. For e, the 200 lypis will be a reat reen lypis illuinated with two ore speial olors, yellow and red.

First, yellow is a eaninful olor. The Yellow River is hina’s other river and the radle of hinese iviliation. We are of the yellow rae and desendants of the Yellow Eperor. This olor has a speial oriin and reat sinifiane for the hinese people. Beijin is the apital of New hina and previously the apital for nine dynasties in hinese history. So, yellow will naturally add splendor to the 200 aes.

Seondly, the 200 lypis will be a red paeant.

Above all, the 200 lypis will be a reen lypis.

ertainly, all of this is no easy task. But I a sure that all of us have onfidene that we will realie these “reen” oals, for now we have the full support and partiipation of the environentally onsious itiens. Eah itien is showin reat onern for every one of the steps the ity overnent takes. As the sayin oes, “United, we stand”, and a reen Beijin will be ahieved.

When our aspiration beoes a reality, it will be a unique lypis. “New Beijin, reat lypis” will be weaved of these three superb olors: yellow, red and reen.

Let us weloe it and look forward to it! Thank you!

Today I would like to bein with a story. There was one a physial therapist who traveled all the way fro Aeria to Afria to do a ensus about ountain orillas. These orillas are a ain attration to tourists fro all over the world; this put the severely under threat of poahin and bein put into the oo. She went there out of uriosity, but what she saw strenthened her deterination to devote her whole life to fihtin for those beautiful reatures. She witnessed a sene, a sene takin us to a plae we never iaed we've ever been, where in the very depth of the Afrian rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the other orillas uddled their babies.

Yes, that's a eorable sene in one of y favorite ovies, alled orillas in the ist, based on a true story of rs. Diana Fossey, who spent ost of her lifetie in Rwanda to protet the eoenvironent there until the very end of her life.

To e, the ovie not only presents an unforettable sene but also ats as a tieless reinder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the ost of our eo-environent.

All these appallin fats have brouht us to the realiation that we an no loner stand by and do nothin, beause the very thouht of it has been erodin our resoures. Enourainly, the explosive rowth of lobal travel has put touris aain in the spotliht, whih is why the United Nations has ade 2002 the year of eotouris, for the first tie to brin to the world's attention the benefits of touris, but also its apaity to destroy our eoenvironent.

Now every year, any loal eoenvironental protetion oraniations are reeivin donations - bi notes, sall notes or even oins - fro housewives, plubers, abulane drivers, salesen, teahers, hildren and invalids. Soe of the annot afford to send the oney but they do. These are the ones who drive the abs, who nurse in hospitals, who are sufferin fro eoloial daae in their neihborhood. Why? Beause they are. Beause they still want their other Nature bak. Beause they know it still belons to the.

This kind of feelin that I have, ladies and entleen, is when it feels like it, sells like it, and looks like it , it's all oin fro a sene to be reebered, a sene to reall and to herish.

The other niht, as I saw the oon liner over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, y ind was filled with sons. I found yself huin softly, not to the usi, but to soethin else, soeplae else, a plae reebered, a plae untouhed, a field of rass where no one seeed to have been exept the deer.

And all those unforettable senes strenthened the feelin that it's tie for us to do soethin, for our own and our oin eneration.

ne aain, I have oe to think of rs. Diana Fossey beause it is with her spirit, passion, ourae and stron sense of our eoenvironent that we are takin our next step into the world.

And no atter who we are, what we do and where we o, in our inds, there's always a sene to reeber, a sene worth our effort to protet it and fiht for it.

Thank you very uh.
